Press and hold the END key until the power-onimage displays to switch on the phone.The service light on the phone flashes and analert sounds. When the system locatesservices, the greeting message displays alongwith the time and date. You can now place andreceive calls.If the phone is out of service, the No Serviceicon ( ) appears on the display. In this case,you cannot place and receive calls. You can tryagain later when service is available.3. When you wish to switch off the phone, pressand hold the END key until the power-offimage displays.WARNING!Do not switch on the phone when mobile phoneuse is prohibited or when it may causeinterference or danger.Using the soft keysYour phone offers a set of functions that allowsyou to customize and use it. These functions arearranged in menus and submenus, accessed usingthe two soft keys. Each menu and submenu allowsyou to view and alter the settings of a particularfunction.Getting started17The roles of the soft keys vary depending on thecurrent function you are using; the labels on thebottom line of the display just above each keyindicate their current role.Your phone’s modesStandby modeStandby is the most basic state of your phone.The phone goes into Standby mode after you turnit on or whenever you briefly press the END key.When your phone is in Standby mode, you willtypically see the greeting message and the currenttime and date.Press the END key at any time to return toStandby mode. Be careful; if you are on a callwhen you press the END key, the call disconnectsand the phone returns to Standby mode.Talk modeYou can place and answer calls only when yourphone is turned on. During a call, the phone is inTalk mode.Lock modeWhen you lock your phone using the Lock Phonemenu, you cannot use the phone. In Lock mode,you can receive messages and calls, but youcannot place an outgoing call until you unlock thephone.
