93Your Phone as a Network DeviceYour telephone requires a service provider to send andreceive calls. Your phone is only one part of a system or“network” of devices that makes it possible for you to sendand receive calls, text messages, voice message, access theInternet using the browser, and to take advantage of all of theother services and features available when your phone isused with your service provider.Your phone will always try your call using your home system, but if this is unavailable, then the phone will use the preferredroaming system. If you cannot roam, your call will not be connected and theicon is displayed. In some service areas, an operator maycome on the line asking you how you would like to pay forthe call.To make all of the features available to you, your phone isdesigned by Samsung and your service provider to allow yourservice provider to send (at any time) a variety or informationand messages to your phone. You may think of this as anover the air service to your phone. During an over-the-airprogramming session, your phone may display thefollowing messages:• “Search... Download” - this message means the phone islooking for the data to download.• “Progress Download” - this message means the phone isdownloading data. Do not turn your phone off while thisis occurring.
