To get an outside linefrom the telephone company, dial an ac cess code (usually the digit 9 in the UK).Check with your system administrator if you are not sure of this code. To call an-other station in your system, simply dial its extension number. Some telephones use FLASH instead of RECALL. Thesame effect can be achieved by a “hookflash.” This is a momentary operation of thehookswitch.C.O. LINESLines from the Telephone Company are called “Central Office” (C.O.) lines. Calls onthese lines are referred to as outside or external calls. These C.O. lines are ac-cessed by dialling an access code. For example, in the UK, dial 9 to get a localoutside line. To get a specific line, dial the 3- or 4-digit line number. Each line in thesystem is numbered beginning with 701 (or 7001), then 702 (7002), 703 (7003) andso on.
