There are sixsubsections covering the following aspects:■ introduction to items that make up system■ additional information on radio body■ additional information on control head■ repair levels that govern servicing of radio■ explanation of product codes for radio body and control head■ general specification for TM8100 radiosThe radio body and control head are the principal items of the systemand are the prime concern of this service manual.1.1 TM8100 Mobile Radio SystemMain Items of System The TM8100 mobile radio system is a high-performancemicroprocessor-controlled transceiver with a comprehensive range ofaccessories. The system is designed primarily for installation in vehiclesbut can also be used in desktop, remote-monitoring and similarapplications. The system consists of the following items:■ radio body■ control head■ audio accessories■ mounting for radio■ desktop power supply (optional)Separate calibration and programming applications are used to calibrateand program the radio. The service manual covers the servicing of theradio body and control head only. The accessories manual coversservicing of all the remaining items.Radio Body The radio body contains the transmitter, receiver and microprocessorcircuitry. The radio body also allows for the fitting of an internal optionsboard to provide additional functions. There are three standard externalconnectors on the radio body: an RF connector, power connector, andauxiliary connector. If an internal options board is fitted, there might ormight not be an associated external options connector. The auxiliaryand external options connectors allow for the connection of variousexternal devices.
