6300 Series Maintenance Manual302.3.3.1.4 Print GapThis option allows the platen to be aligned to the hammer bank. When the enter key is pressed theplaten goes to a value of 54. At this point, the technician will align and distance by approximately13 mils the platen from the hammer tips. This is achieved by turning the screws on the adjust sideplates. Once this is complete, the enter key is pressed again and the platen returns to the fullyopen position.The print gap calibration and the platen sensor calibration need only be run during final assemblyof the printer and anytime a platen is replaced. If a hammer bank is replaced, only the print gapoption needs to be run.2.3.3.1.5 PlatenThis option calibrates the platen sensor to the platen motor. When the enter key is pressed theplaten motor will step through its entire rotational range. At each step the sensor reading will berecorded. This process takes approximately 30 seconds and its progress is indicated by anincreasing bar graph on the control panel. Once completed the platen will return to the fully openposition. If errors are found in the table after the calibration has completed, the table is erased and“Platen Sensor Fault” is displayed on the front panel.In order for the platen sensor calibration to work properly, paper and the ribbon cartridge must beremoved. The software, however, checks for the presence of these items and will display an errormessage and not start the calibration until they have been removed.2.3.3.2 Cal-PaperThe only paper sensor that can be calibrated is the Paper Out sensor.2.3.3.2.1 Paper OutThis parameter allows users to calibrate the paper-out detection sensor if the factory defaultsettings fail to detect when the paper really is out, or when false paper-out faults occur. PressingENTER will initiate a series of messages instructing the operator to calibrate the detection sensor: Remove the paper from the printer, close the tractor door, and press ENTER . A numericvalue will be displayed briefly. A new message appears instructing the user to load theprinter with paper. Press ENTER . A new numeric value is displayed briefly, ending the calibrationsequence.
