10 TASCAM DA-45HR2 - Parts of the tape deckNOTESAs well as providing details of the settingsmade with switches, etc., this section alsoprovides the information necessary for basicoperations of the tape deck. Although theoperation of the transport keys, etc. will befamiliar, there are some additional features ofthis tape deck, and the operation of these fea-tures may differ slightly from the way in whichthey are implemented on other units. Pleaseconsult 2.3, "Tape controls" for full details ofsuch features and their operation. The operation of the optional RC-D45 remotecontrol unit is explained in 5, "RC-D45 remotecontrol unit (option)".The more commonly-used functions of thefunction keys (below the display) which arelabeled in white above the keys are alsodescribed in this section. The less commonly-used functions, labeled in blue above thekeys, are described in 4, "Advanced func-tions".2.1 Power and display[1] POWER switchPush once to turn the power on, and again to turn thepower off.[2] Cassette tray and OPEN/CLOSEbuttonAlways load DAT cassettes in the way illustrated onpage 7.Press the open/close button to open the tray. If a cas-sette is already loaded, it will be unthreaded, and thewords Tray Open! will flash on the display. After the tray is fully open, these words will beshown (not flashing). When the tray is open, and the open/close button ispressed, the words Tray Close will flash onthe display. If a tape is correctly inserted in the traywhen it is closed, the display will show a countervalue.[3] Display windowThe different modes available for display aredescribed more fully below (COUNTER MODE[21] and DISPLAY [24]).Above the tape counter in the display are two bar-graph peak level meters which show either the levelof the input signals, or the level of the signalsrecorded on tape, depending on the current status ofthe transport.Other indicators in the display provide informationon the current status of the tape deck and of the tape(e.g. clock status, sampling frequency, repeat status, and the various IDs encountered when a tape is beingreplayed).NOTEIn this manual, we use the term “program” todescribe part of a recording between twoSTART IDs. This is equivalent to the term“track” on a CD or MD. Since the term “track”is already established with another meaningin analog tape recording technology, the term“program” is used here instead.2.2 Recording mode and sourceswitches, etc.The following controls affect the recording mode, and the selection of the signal source when makingrecordings.[4] CLOCK switchUse this switch to select between INT (the tapedeck’s internal clock), D-IN (the word clock receivedthrough the digital audio inputs— either AES/EBUor COAXIAL) or WORD (the word clock receivedthrough the BNC word synchronization connector, asdescribed in 1.5.3, "Making word synchronizationconnections").When making recordings using digital audio connec-tions from the source (the INPUT SELECTORSWITCH [7] is set to DIGITAL), this switch must beset to D-IN or WORD, as appropriate. If the CLOCKswitch is set to INT when digital recording is beingattempted, the display will show CLKINTX, andno recording is possible.WARNINGThere must be one, and only one, word clocksource in a digital audio system. If there ismore than one word clock, or if a digital audiodevice is not properly synchronized, damagemay be caused to speakers, etc.
