28 TASCAM DR-701D4 – RecordingRecording slate tonesDuring recording, playback or monitoring, press the SLATEbutton on the back of the unit to output a slate tone at the pointyou want.During recording, inserted slate tones can be added to files.For details about how to connect the unit with a DSLR camera,see “Camera connections” on page 16.NOTEIn order to prevent misoperation, the SLATE button must beheld briefly to insert a slate tone.Slate tones are output from the LINE OUT and OUT jacks.Moving to slate tone insertion positionsNOTEMarks are added at slate tone insertion positions. Fordetails about how to locate to marks, see “Moving to a markposition” on page 27.Inputting time code and addingrecording start times to filesSetting the time code source inputThis sets the source of input time code.1. On the TIME CODE page, select the SELECT item. (see“Menu operation procedures” on page 12)2. Set the time code input source.Option MeaningLTC(default)Time code is input through the TIME CODE INconnector.If timecode has not been input when the unit isin its initial state, the timecode will be stopped at00:00:00:00.The unit synchronizes to time code when it isbeing input.If timecode input is interrupted, the unit will runby itself.If the input resumes, the unit synchronizes withthat input.HDMITime code is input through the HDMI IN port,and the unit synchronizes with the input timecode.The unit stops time code if HDMI is disconnected.RTCTime code is generated from the time of theunit's built-in clock.When the unit is turned on, this mode isactivated or the built-in clock is reset, the unitcaptures the time from the built-in clock andruns by itself.3. When finished, press the MENU button to return to theHome Screen.
