29Connect your audio sources to the US-224.Connect an analog source via the XLR or1/4” inputs, or a digital source via theS/PDIF input.7.2 Recording Your TracksIn Cubasis, choose the input(s) you wish toenable on the US-224. In the Audio menu,select Input, and click on the input pair onthe US-224. The green Input icons will lightin VST’s Input window for active inputs.Select the Audio track(s) to record to byhighlighting that track in the Arrangewindow.NOTE: If this is the first track recorded in agiven project, Cubasis will probably respondwith a dialog box asking you for a path tosave the audio files. It is highlyrecommended that you create a uniquefolder for each song or project, as audio.WAV files can accumulate very quickly onyour hard disk, and keeping them organizedcan get pretty complicated.Once you’ve enabled your tracks, you’ll wantto monitor audio through them to set yourlevels. Open Cubasis’ Monitor Mixer(Audio/Monitor menu), and make certainyou’ve assigned your channel inputs andenabled them. You should see audio signalon those channels’ meters (assuming you’resending signal from your source).If your input signal is too high, the OL LEDwill glow steadily red. If the signal level is toolow, you might only see a flicker, or nothingat all, on the SIGNAL LED.You can regulate the input level of the inputsource in several ways. First, make sure thatthe signal you’re sending to the US-224 iswithin a reasonable range – it shouldilluminate the green SIGNAL LED, but thered OL LED should only flicker occasionally.You can then fine adjust the level with theTRIM knobs for the selected channel(s).NOTE: The SIGNAL and OL LED’s do notfunction with digital input.In the case of digital input, input level isregulated by the output level of the source,and passed directly to the softwareapplication without modification.On Cubasis’ Transport Bar, you can enablethe recording to drop in or out of Recordbased on the locate points you’ve set. If youdo not wish to enable this function, makecertain the buttons for drop in and drop outare not enabled.Press the RECORD button on the US-224. Ifyou’ve got the metronome’s Count-offfunction enabled, you’ll hear a one or twobar countoff, and then the program will enterRecord mode. It will stop recording when itreaches the drop out point, or if none isenabled, when you hit the STOP button.Cubasis will now create a display of thetrack(s) you’ve just recorded. This can takea few seconds to a few minutes, dependingon how long the recorded tracks are andhow many there are. You’ll then see thetracks appear in your arrange window.7.3 OverdubbingTo overdub more tracks, simply select andenable additional tracks as you did theprevious ones, and repeat the procedure.You can monitor the tracks you’ve alreadyrecorded via the US-224’s outputs, whilerecording additional tracks into Cubasis viathe US-224’s inputs. Be sure to assign eachtrack to its own channel in the program’sinternal mixer. For more information onCubasis’ mixer functions, including groupsand output assigns, please refer to theCubasis manual.When overdubbing, you can also select theINPUT MONITOR mode by pressing theINPUT MONITOR button on the US-224.
