28Front panel controls Main switchThe switch positions have the following functions:OFFThe unit is switched off.ONThe unit is switched on.AUTO (Automatic power-on)The S10 features a universal automatic power-on circuitwhich switches the unit on automatically from stand-bymode. If you wish to use the automatic power-on circuit, the main switch must be set to the “AUTO” position. The automatic power-on circuit can be activated usingeither an RLINK control cable, a trigger voltage from thepre-amplifier, or by the music signal itself.Switching on using an RLINK control cableIf the S10 is connected to the P10 pre-amplifier withan RLINK lead, it is automatically switched on and offtogether with the pre-amplifier.Switching on using a trigger voltage(4-pin XLR socket)An alternative method of remotely switching on the S10 isto use a trigger voltage (+5 V ... +15 V), which is providedby many pre-amplifiers, such as the P10. Thetrigger voltage is connected to the trigger control input ofthe 4-pin XLR socket. When the trigger voltage is switched off, the S10switches itself off after a delay of about one minute.NoteFor the P10 / S10 combination, the accessory rangeincludes special 4-pin XLR cables with integral triggerwire.Switching on via the music signalThe S10 also features a signal-controlled automaticpower-on circuit, which switches the S10 on as soon as amusic signal is present at one of its inputs. When the music signal ceases, the S10 switches itself offagain after a delay of about thirty minutes. The power-down delay ensures that the S10 does not switch itself offinadvertently in response to brief pauses in the music.NoteSignal-controlled power-on is not recommended for theS10, as there is always a long delay between the musicsignal’s appearance and the amplifier’s ready state(loudspeaker switched on), due to the inevitablepreliminary heating time of the valves. For this reasonwherever possible we recommend switching the unit onby RLINK, by trigger voltage, or manually using the mainswitch. Caution! The main switch is not an isolation switch. Parts ofthe machine remain connected to mains voltage evenwhen the main switch is at the off position. The cur-rent drain in stand-by mode and in automatic mode isstated in the section entitled “Specification”.If you know the amplifier will not be used for a longperiod, we recommend that you withdraw the mainsplug to isolate it from the mains supply.
