39Safety notesFor your own safety please consider it essential to readthese operating instructions right through, and observe inparticular the notes regarding setting up, operation andsafety. The unit must be set up in such a way that none of theconnections can be touched directly (especially bychildren). Be sure to observe the notes and information inthe section 'Installation and Wiring'.High voltages may be present at the loudspeakerterminals marked with the symbol. Avoid touching theterminals and the cable conductors connected to them. The power supply required for this amplifier is printed onthe mains supply socket. The unit must never beconnected to a power supply which does not meet thesespecifications. If the amplifier is not to be used for a longperiod disconnect it from the mains supply at the wallsocket.Mains leads must be deployed in such a way that there isno danger of damage to them (e. g. through personstreading on them or from furniture). Take particular carewith plugs, distribution panels and connections at theamplifier.Liquid or foreign bodies must never be allowed to getinside the unit through the ventilation slots. Mains voltageis present inside the unit, and any electric shock couldcause serious injury or death. Never exert undue force onmains connectors.Protect the unit from drips and splashes of water; neverplace flower vases or fluid containers on the unit. This device should never be used without propersupervision. This applies to any electrical unit. Take careto keep the unit out of the reach of small children. CAUTIONThe method of operation of valve amplifiers meansthat they inevitably generate a considerable quantityof waste heat. For this reason please note thefollowing points:• Never touch the valves or the valve covers when theyare switched on, as these may become very hot.• Set up the amplifier in an open position and ensurethat air can flow to and around it completelyunhindered.• Do not place any object on the amplifier.• Note the recommended points in the section 'Settingup'.• Allow the amplifier to cool down before you move ortransport it.• Set up the amplifier in a position where childrencannot touch it.The case should only be opened by a qualified specialisttechnician. Repairs and fuse replacements should beentrusted to an authorised specialist workshop. Withthe exception of the connections and measuresdescribed in these instructions, no work of any kind maybe carried out on the amplifier by unqualified persons. If the unit is damaged, or if you suspect that it is notfunctioning correctly, immediately disconnect the mainsplug at the wall socket, and ask an authorised specialist workshop to check it.The unit may be damaged by excess voltage in thepower supply, the mains circuit or in aerial systems, asmay occur during thunderstorms (lightning strikes) or dueto static discharges.Special power supply units and excess voltage protectorssuch as the 'Power Bar' mains distribution paneloffer some degree of protection from damage toequipment due to the hazards described above. However, if you require absolute security from damagedue to excess voltage, the only solution is to disconnectthe unit from the mains power supply and any aerialsystems.Unplugging the mains plug will disconnect the devicefrom the mains for service and repair. Please make surethat the mains plug is easily accessible. If there is any danger of excessive voltage reaching theequipment (e. g. a developing electrical storm) isolateyour Hi-Fi system by disconnecting all the mains andaerial plugs from the wall sockets. All mains power supply and aerial systems to which theunit is connected must meet the current regulations andmust be installed by an approved electrical installer. CAUTIONIt is not permissible to carry out any modifications to themachine. It is particularly important not to remove thecovers from the valves. The machine must not beoperated without the valve covers in place.
