25UBI EasyCoder 91 – Installation & Operation Ed. 1Chapter 3 OperationIntroductionThe EasyCoder 91 can print on heat-sensitive direct ther-mal paper and – in case of thermal transfer models – onnon heat-sensitive receiving face materials, in the formof self-adhesive labels or non-adhesive tag. In case ofnon heat-sensitive face materials, a suitable thermal trans-fer ribbon must be used. The paper stock can be accommodated inside the printerin the form of a roll, or be placed behind the printer andinserted through a slot in the cover (e.g. fan-folded tick-ets or tags). Two models for different types of operation are avail-able, Tear-Off and Peel-Off:• Tear-Off ModelTear-off means that the paper is fed straight out fromthe front of the printer and can be torn-off manually bypulling it against a metal edge. Tear-off mode can e.g.be used for tearing off tags at the perforation, ortearing off the backing paper between labels.• Peel-Off ModelThe Peel-off model can perform the same tasks as thetear-off model, but is also capable of peel-off operation.Peel-off means that self-adhesive labels are separatedfrom the backing paper (liner) after printing. Thelabels are fed straight out from the printer, while thebacking paper is fed out separately from a slot furtherdown on the printer's front, from where it can be leadto e.g. a waste basket.Be careful when loading self-adhesive labels. If labelsare not flat on the backing paper, the exposed edgescan stick to your printer and cause problems.A built-in Label Taken Sensor (LTS) holds the printinguntil the previous label (or similar) has been removedfrom the printer's outfeed slot. As long as the sensordetects a label, the printer will be BUSY and cannotreceive data from host.If using the protocol described in the EasyCoder 91Programming Manual, note the following:• The LTS can be disabled by an O command.• When switching between peel-off and tear-offoperation, the paper feed must be readjusted bymeans of a j command.Paper LoadWindows DriverThe EasyCoder 91 WindowsDrivers contains options forselecting the following modesof operation without any j or Ocommands having to be enteredby the operator:• Tear-off• Peel-off with LTS enabled• Peel-off with LTS disabledIMPORTANT!If the printer runs out of paperwhile printing, do not turn off thepower during reload, or data willbe lost!
