Operating instructions ecoTEC plus 0020124810_FT1b 194.9 Protecting the heating system against frostb Caution!Material damage caused by frost!Frost protection and monitoring devices areonly active while the boiler is connected up tothe power mains and the on/off switch is on.> Do not isolate the boiler from the powermains.> Leave your boiler switched on at the on/offswitch.b Caution!Tap water that is extremely calciferousor corrosive or contaminated by chemicalscan cause damage to the boiler!Unsuitable tap water damages the seals anddiaphragms, blocks components in the boilerand heating system through which the waterflows and causes noise.> Only fill the heating system with suitabletap water.> In case of doubt, consult your approvedheating engineer.The heating system and water pipes are sufficientlyprotected against frost if the heating system remainson and the rooms are sufficiently heated while you areaway.4.9.1 Activating the frost protection functionYour Vaillant ecoTEC plus boiler is fitted with a frostprotection function:If the heating flow temperature falls below 5 °C whenthe main switch is on, the boiler comes into operationand heats the heat generation circuit to approx. 30 °C.b Caution!Material damage caused by frost!The frost protection function cannotguarantee flow through the entire heatingsystem, which means that parts of the heatingsystem may freeze and become damaged.> Make sure that the boiler remains on whilstyou are away.> Make sure that the rooms are heatedsufficiently.4.9.2 Draining the heating systemAnother way to protect the heating system and theboiler from frost is to drain them. You must ensure thatthe heating system and boiler are completely drained.All the cold and hot water pipes in the house and in theboiler must also be drained.> Ask your heating engineer to drain the heatingsystem.Operation 4
