Climate control 111Air intakeThe air inta kes in front of the windsc reen inthe engine com partment must be keptclear to allow air intake. Remove anylea ves, d irt or snow.Pollen filterThe p ollen filter cleans dust, soot, pollenand spores from the air entering fromoutside. The active carbon layer 3elim inates most od ours and harmfulamb ient gases from the air.Replace the pollen filter at the interv alsgiven in the chapter "S ervice, maintenance" on pag e 202.NoteIf the windscreen mists up in dampweather, tem pora rily set the sy stem asdescribed und er "Window demisting anddefrosting" - see pages 105, 110.Cooling is most effic ient when the windowsare closed. If the interior is extrem ely hotdue to a long period in strong sunlight, briefly open the windows and sunroof 3 toallow hot air to escape quickly. When cooling (air conditioningcompressor) is switched on, condensationforms, which is expelled from the undersideof the vehic le.When cooling is switched on, at least one ofthe adjustable c entre or side air vents mustbe open so tha t the evaporator does notice up due to lack of air movement.Cooling switches off automatically at lowoutside temperatures.Do not c ov er the interior temperaturesensor (located below the fan switch) or thesunlight sensor (located in front ofwind screen defroster vents) as this couldcause the Electronic Clima te C ontrol (EC C)sy stem 3 to malfunction.MaintenanceTo ensure c ontinuously effic ientperforma nc e and prolong the life of the airconditioning sy stem, it must be switched onfor a few minutes once a w eek, irrespectiveof the weather and time of year.Electronic Climate C ontrol (EC C) 3 handlesthis autom atically while driving. Airconditioning compressor operation is notpossible at low outside temperatures.Malfunctions in the sy stem must not berectified by the owner: consult a workshop .
