Driving and operating 109The engine will be switched off whilethe ignition stays on if the requiredconditions are met.An Autostop is indicated when Ïilluminates green in the instrumentcluster.During an Autostop, the brakeperformance will be maintained.Conditions for an AutostopThe stop-start system checks if eachof the following conditions is fulfilled,otherwise an Autostop will beinhibited.■ The stop-start system is notmanually deactivated■ the bonnet is fully closed■ the driver's door is closed or thedriver's seat belt is fastened■ the vehicle battery is sufficientlycharged and in good condition■ the engine is warmed up■ the engine coolant temperature isnot too high■ the ambient temperature is not toolow■ the defrosting function is notactivated■ the climate control system does notinhibit an Autostop■ the brake vacuum is sufficient■ the vehicle has moved since thelast Autostop■ the diesel particle filter self-cleaning function is in progressAn Autostop may be less available asthe ambient temperature approachesfreezing point.Certain settings of the climate controlsystem may inhibit an Autostop. SeeClimate control chapter for furtherinformation 3 94.Immediately after motorway drivingan Autostop may be inhibited.Autostop may also be inhibitedtemporarily if the vehicle battery hasbeen recharged by an externalsource.New vehicle running-in 3 106.Vehicle battery discharge protectionTo ensure reliable engine restarts,several vehicle battery dischargeprotection features are implementedas part of the stop-start system.Restart of the engine by thedriverDepress the clutch pedal to restart theengine. If the selector lever has beenshifted out of N or other conditions arenot met, start using the ignition key.Control indicator Ï will extinguish inthe instrument cluster when theengine is restarted.
