Vehicle features MerivaQuick Reference GuideRefer to Owner’s Manual for detailed information.Illustrations may depict left-hand drive vehicles.Operation is similar for right-hand drive vehicles.Depending on the model variant, special equipmentand accessories, the scope of equipment on yourvehicle may differ from the descriptions in this guide.TS 1692-B-13 / KTA 2692-6 January 2013*KTA-2692-6*Vehicle features Vehicle featuresUnlocking the vehicle:Press button c on remote controlonce or twice (depending onsetting) to unlock the doors, loadcompartment and fuel filler flap.Locking the vehicle:Press button e on remote control.If the driver’s door is not closedproperly, the central locking systemwill not work.The vehicle can be configured tounlock only the driver’s door whenpressing button c once on theremote control. Pressing button ctwice will unlock the entire vehicle.Central locking button:To lock or unlock doors from insidethe vehicle, press central lockingbutton c e in the centre consolewith the doors closed. The LED inthe button illuminates when thedoors are locked.The LED in the button illuminatesfor approx. 2 minutes after lockingwith the remote control.Electronic immobiliser:Activated automatically when keyis removed from ignition switch.1. Power windows2. Exterior mirrors3. Cruise control4. Side air vents5. Turn signals, headlight flash,low beam and high beam,exit lighting, parking lights,Driver Information Centre6. Instruments7. Light switch, fog lights,headlight range adjustment,instrument panel illuminationAutomatic transmission:P = park positionR = reverse gearN = neutralD = drive positionThe selector lever can only bemoved out of P when the ignition ison and the foot brake is depressed.When the foot brake is notdepressed, the control indicator jilluminates in the selector lever trim.To engage P or R, press the releasebutton on the selector lever.When position N is selected,depress foot brake or applyparking brake before starting.Manual mode:Move selector lever out ofposition D towards the left toengage manual mode.Move lever forwards or backwardsto change gear:< = Shift to a higher gear] = Shift to a lower gearIf a higher gear is selected whenvehicle speed is too low, or a lowergear when vehicle speed is toohigh, the shift is not executed.In manual mode, no automaticshifting to a higher gear takesplace at high engine revolutions.Manual transmission:Reverse gear:With the vehicle stationary, wait3 seconds after depressing theclutch pedal, then press releasebutton on selector lever andengage gear.If the gear does not engage, set thelever to neutral, release the clutchpedal and depress again; thenrepeat gear selection.Do not grind the clutchunnecessarily.When operating, depress the clutchpedal completely. Do not use thepedal as a foot rest.Starting the engine: Turn key to position 1 Move steering wheel slightly torelease steering wheel lock Manual transmission in neutralwith clutch pedal depressed Automatic transmission in P or Nwith foot brake depressed Do not accelerate Diesel engines:Turn key to position 2 forpreheating and wait for controlindicator ! to extinguish ininstrument cluster Turn key to position 3 andrelease when engine is runningBefore restarting or to switch offengine, turn key back to position 0.Stop-Start system:When conditions allow, the systemswitches off the engine to save fueland reduce emission levels if thevehicle is at a low speed or at astandstill, e.g. at traffic lights or in atraffic jam. It starts the engine assoon as the clutch pedal isdepressed.To activate an Autostop: Depress clutch pedal Shift selector lever to neutral Release the clutch pedalThe needle points to AUTO STOP inthe tachometer.To restart engine, depress clutchpedal again.Load compartment:Unlock the vehicle by pressingbutton c on remote control once ortwice (depending on setting).To open the tailgate, push thetouchpad switch underneath thetailgate moulding.Use one of the interior handles onthe underside of the tailgate toclose.Do not push the touchpad switchunderneath the tailgate mouldingwhen closing or the tailgate willunlock again.Secure the bonnet support.If the bonnet is opened during anAutostop, the engine will berestarted automatically for safetyreasons.Closing the bonnet:Before closing, press the bonnetsupport into its holder.Lower the bonnet and allow it todrop into the catch. Check that thebonnet is engaged.Electrical parking brake:Pull switch J: electrical parkingbrake is applied automatically.For maximum force, e.g. parkingon inclines, pull switch J twice.To release, switch on ignition. Keepfoot brake depressed then pushswitch J.Drive away function:Depressing clutch pedal orengaging D (automatictransmission) and then depressingthe accelerator pedal releases theelectrical parking brakeautomatically.Opening the bonnet:Pull the release lever located belowthe instrument panel on the driver’sside and return it to its originalposition.Press the safety catch below thebonnet and open the bonnet.Refuelling:Before refuelling, switch off engineand any external heaters withcombustion chambers (identifiedby sticker on fuel filler flap).Switch off mobile phones.Fuel filler flap is located at rightrear side of vehicle.The fuel filler flap can only beopened if the vehicle is unlocked.Pull fuel filler flap at the recess andopen.Unscrew the fuel filler capanticlockwise and remove.The fuel filler cap can be retained inthe bracket on the fuel filler flap.For refuelling, fully insert the pumpnozzle and switch it on.To close, replace fuel filler cap andclose fuel filler flap. After automaticcut-off, it can be topped up withmaximum two doses of fuel.Wipe off any overflowing fuel.Fuel specifications:Petrol engines - Only use unleadedfuel that complies with DIN EN 228or E DIN 51626-1.Diesel engines - Only use diesel fuelthat complies with DIN EN 590.Capacities:Fuel tank capacity(All petrol/diesel engines) - 54 litres.Engine oil:Check the engine oil level manuallyon a regular basis to preventdamage to the engine.Ensure that the correctspecification of oil is used.Check with vehicle on a levelsurface. Engine must be atoperating temperature andswitched off for at least 5 minutes.Pull out dipstick, wipe it clean,insert to the stop on the handle,pull out and read engine oil level.Insert dipstick to stop on handleand make half a turn.Important:It is the owner’s responsibility tomaintain the correct level of anappropriate quality oil in theengine.Do not allow the engine oil level todrop below the minimum level!Tyre pressure:Check tyre pressures, including the spare, every 14 days and prior to any long journey; tyres should be checkedwhen cold. This also applies to vehicles with tyre deflation detection system.The tyre pressure data refers to cold tyres.
