Roof rack, caravan and trailer towing 123The permissible caravan/trailer loads foryour vehicle are given in the vehicle papers.Unless otherwise stated, they are valid forgradients up to max. 12%.The permissible caravan/trailer load shouldbe fully utilized only by drivers who areadequately experienced in towing largecaravans/trailers.In higher elevations the engine output andgradability may drop so that it may not bepossible for the permissible caravan/trailerloads to be fully utilized in mountainousterritory. The actual caravan/trailer load plus theactual gross vehicle weight must notexceed the maximum permitted towingweight. For example, if the permitted grossvehicle weight is utilised, the caravan/trailer load must only be used until themaximum permitted towing weight isreached. The maximum permitted towingweight is shown on the identification plate, see page 161.Coupling socket loadThe coupling socket load is the loadexerted by the caravan/trailer on thecoupling ball. It can be varied by changingthe weight distribution when loading thecaravan/trailer.The maximum permissible coupling socketload for the towing vehicle, stated on thelabel, should always be aimed for, particularly in the case of heavy caravans/trailers. The coupling socket load shouldnever be below 25 kg.In the case of caravan/trailer loads of1200 kg or more, the coupling socket loadshould not be less than 50 kg.When measuring the coupling socket load, make sure that the drawbar of the loadedcaravan/trailer is at the same height as itwill be when the caravan/trailer is coupledwith the towing vehicle loaded. Particularlyimportant for trailers/caravans withtandem axle.Rear axle load during towingWhen the caravan/trailer is coupled andthe towing vehicle fully loaded (includingall occupants), the permissible rear axleload must not be exceeded.Tyre inflation pressureIncrease the tyre pressure on the towingvehicle to the value specified for full load(see page 167). Also check the pressure ofthe caravan/trailer tyres.Ofrecido por www.electromanuales.com
