Defrost thebattery before connecting the jumpleads.z Do not allow battery fluid to contacteyes, skin, fabrics or painted surfaces.The fluid contains sulphuric acid whichcan cause injuries and damage in theevent of direct contact.z Wear eye protection and protectiveclothing when handling a battery.z Use auxiliary battery with same voltage(12 volts). Its capacity (Ah) must not beconsiderably less than that of thedischarged battery. Voltage andcapacity information can be found onthe batteries.z Use jump leads with insulated terminalsand a width of at least 16 mm 2 (25 mm 2for diesel engines).z Do not disconnect the dischargedbattery from the vehicle.z Switch off all unnecessary electricalconsumers.9 WarningIf the vehicle battery requires chargingwhilst still in the vehicle, ensure there isadequate ventilation in and around thebattery compartment to prevent risk ofexplosion.9 WarningThis must be done with extreme care.
