Sound Parameters – The TempoWaldorf Q User’s Manual 56Envelopes are for modulations that occur once on each note. These generators areassigned to parameters through the Modulation Matrix and influence these parameters toalter a sound. In addition, the Modifier unit can process various mathematical operationsand functions on the modulation signals. The TempoTempo 40…300The Tempo control is one of the most important parameters in all operation modes of the Q. Itcontrols the tempo of the Step Sequencer, the Arpeggiator, some Effect types and the LFO whereClocked is activated. In Multi Mode, Tempo controls the overall tempo of the current Multi affecting all Sounds that areused in its Instruments. These parameters are affected by Tempo:• LFO 1…3 Speed, when the respective Clocked parameter is activated• Effect type Delay, when its Tempo parameter is set to Internal• The Arpeggiator• The Step SequencerClock Internal / Send / Auto / Auto-Thru The Clock parameter is located in the Global menu. You can also change the clock settingsby pressing the Shift button and turning the Tempo knob to the desired value.Tempo goes hand in hand with the Clock parameter. It determines how the Q reacts on incomingMIDI Clock messages and if it sends those. Depending on the setting of Clock, the actual soundtempo is set as follows:• Internal means that the Q doesn’t react on incoming MIDI Clock nor does it send MIDIClock. The Q only syncs to its own tempo base that is set by Tempo.• Send means that the Q doesn’t react on incoming MIDI Clock but sends it as MIDI Clockmessages through its MIDI Out. Use this setting when you want to sync other devices tothe Q’s Tempo setting but never want to sync the Q to any other device.• Auto means that the Q automatically syncs to incoming MIDI Clock if it is sent to it by anexternal device like a sequencer or drum machine. If there is no MIDI Clock present, theQ generates its internal tempo base and sends it as MIDI Clock messages through its MIDIOut. This is the recommended setting that works in almost all situations. Now, how does Auto really work? When you select a Sound or a Multi, the programmedtempo is used as long as no MIDI Clock is received. As soon as the Q receives MIDIClock, the Tempo parameter is changed to match the incoming MIDI Clock. This tempois still valid when no MIDI Clock is received anymore. You can now change the Tempomanually starting from the calculated value or perform the Recall function for the Soundor Multi to get back to the stored tempo.• Auto-Thru means that the Q automatically syncs to incoming MIDI Clock and alwayssends out MIDI Clock, no matter if it received it or if it generated the tempo base itself.
