If this does not remedy the problem, refer to Fault ClearanceProcedure on page 83.Symptom RecommendationThe machine will not power on. • Check the power cord.• Check that the power switch is pressed tothe position.• Check that the AC outlet is supplyingvoltage. Connect another appliance to theoutlet to verify the voltage supply.• Check that the button on theright-hand side of the machine is not in thetripped (popped up) position. Push thebutton to reset.The error indicator illuminates. • Check whether a message is displayed onthe screen. If a message is displayed,follow the instructions. If not, select [ErrorInformation] on the [Machine Status]screen after pressing the Status> button on the control panel, andcheck the contents displayed on thescreen.The machine makes a squealing noise after itpowers off.• Between 3 to 5 minutes after powering off,the machine may make a squealing noise.This is not cause for concern, sincevarious components within the machineare still powering off.The document will not feed through thedocument feeder.• Check that the document feeder is notoverloaded. The document feeder canhold a maximum of 50 sheets.• Check that the document is fully insertedinto the document feeder.• Using a lint-free cloth, lightly wipe theplaten cushion on the underside of theplaten cover.• Set the documents, and then check thatthe side guides are not too tight.The machine does not display one of thepaper trays as one of the Paper Supplyselections.• Check that no paper trays are open. If atray is ajar, the machine cannot sense itsconnection.• Open and close each paper tray. If thisdoes not rectify the problem, then powerthe machine off and then on.
