COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS6-2 DOCUPRINT IPS SOLUTIONS GUIDEWhat is the Diagnostic Lockout feature on the DocuPrint 180 IPS?The Diagnostic Lockout feature allows your Xerox ServiceRepresentative to access the programs required for runningdiagnostics on your DocuPrint 180 IPS printer. As part of the FullService Maintenance Agreement (FSMA), Xerox provides theselevels of diagnostics:• Basic, which provides minimal diagnostic support• ValueAdded, which includes Basic diagnostics and providesexpanded diagnostic capabilities. In addition, Time and Material (non-FSMA) customers may purchasean annual Right To Use for Basic Diagnostics. To activate the Diagnostic Lockout feature, the service engineerenters an authorization code in the Administration/Authorizationoption on the IPS GUI. This code, when combined with a valid hostserial number and IOT serial number (provided internally by thesystem), activates an encryption system that unlocks the systemdiagnostics. While the system is in diagnostic mode, users cannot issue operatorcommands or other system processing commands, nor can theyaccess any other GUI panel or window. This restriction prevents theuser or service engineer from being injured while working on thesystem. When the diagnostics have been completed, the system reverts tothe locked diagnostic mode, and the printer may be used for normalprinting. What is Sixth Sense Technology?Sixth Sense Technology is a user-friendly suite of tools that allowservice personnel to connect with a customer system and evaluateits performance while the system is being used. The CustomerService Engineer (CSE) can troubleshoot problems remotely, transfer, apply, and remove patches remotely, and, if an on-site callis required, arrive with the solution to fix the problem.Customer benefits of using this technology include:• Diagnostic help and identification of required parts before theservice visit• Planned visits based on known problems and/or replacement ofwear-out items• Customer self-maintenance to provide faxed replacementchange to trained operators.Using Sixth Sense Technology, CSEs can access your system’sdiagnostic data remotely using a regular telephone line almost as ifthey were at the Printer Controller (SPARCstation). For security reasons, the customer maintains control of the modemconnection, and may leave the modem disconnected. Also, thecustomer provides a password for access to Sixth Sense Technologyvia the modem.
