Automatic Tray Switching2-24 v DocuPrint N24, N32, and N40 System Administrator GuideTray Sequence Rules When you define a Tray Sequence, the printer searchesthe input trays for the correct size and type of paper foreach job that is submitted.• If you do not specify an input tray when sending a jobto the printer (e.g., no paper source command is sent,or the paper source is set to “Auto” in PCL), the traysincluded in the Tray Sequence are searched first (inthe sequence order), before other trays not in thesequence.• If you specify an input tray when sending a job to theprinter, and that tray is included in the Tray Sequence,the printer will check that tray for the correct size andtype of paper.— If the tray contains the correct paper, then it is used.— If the tray does not contain the correct paper (e.g., itcontains other paper or is empty), the other trays inthe sequence are searched.- If any of these trays contains the correct paper,then it is used.- If any of these trays are set to the correct papersize and type but all of the trays in the sequenceare empty, then the printer will prompt you toload paper into the specified tray.- If no trays in the sequence are set to the correctpaper size and type, then the remaining traysare searched. If there are no trays that cansatisfy the request, then the printer will promptyou to load paper into the specified tray.• If you include “MBF” in the Tray Sequence setting, arequest to feed paper from any other tray in thesequence will be overridden and the printer willattempt to feed paper from the 50 Sheet Bypass Feederfirst. If the 50 Sheet Bypass Feeder is out of paper, thenthe other trays in the sequence are searched.
