The horizontal lines of the print aremade up of long and short dashes. Inspect thefirst and last 1/2 in. (12 mm) of the black linesfor the vertical distance between the shortdashes and long dashes: If the short dashes are any distancebelow, inline, or slightly above (with noseparation) with the long dashes, then thedrum gap is correct. If the short dashes are above the longdashes with significant line separation,then the drum gap is too wide and must bereadjusted. If the short dashes on one side of the printextend farther below the long dashes thanon the other side of the print with anoticeable difference (1/64 in., 0.4 mm ormore), or if the short dashes extend belowthe long dashes on one side of the printand the short dashes extend above thelong dashes on the other side of the print(with line separation), then the printhead isskewed and must be readjusted.Text. Examine each end of the band of text.Look for fuzziness or differences between thequality of the characters on the left and rightends of the print. A difference indicates theprinthead gaps at each end of the printhead arenot equal.Perform the procedure "Printhead-to-drumspacing adjustment (Phaser 840 Printer Only)",on page 4-146.
