8FT-4XR/FT-4XE Operating ManualPreparationInstalling the Antenna1. Turn the antenna clockwise until it is secured.z Do not hold or twist the upper part of theantenna when installing or removing it. Todo so may break the conductors inside theantenna.z Do not key the transmit without installing theantenna. The transmitter components maybe damaged.z When using an antenna other than theone supplied, or connecting to an externalantenna, ensure that the SWR is adjusted to1.5 or lower.Hold the thick baseof the antennaAttaching the Belt Clip1. Attach the belt clip on the back of transceiverusing the supplied screws (two).z Be sure to use the supplied screws whenattaching the belt clip. If any other screwsare used, the belt clip cannot be securedfirmly to the battery pack and the transceivermay drop off together with the battery pack;the transceiver and battery pack may fall off,causing injury, breakage and other damage.z Use a hand strap which can withstand theweight of the transceiver. If the hand strap isnot strong enough, the it may break and thetransceiver may fall, causing injury, breakageand other difficulty.Supplied ScrewsStrap Hole for commerciallyavailable strapBelt ClipInstalling the Battery Pack1. ①Referring to the figure at the right, insertthe battery pack into the seals of the batterycompartment on the back of the transceiver.2. ②Push the battery pack in until the battery latchclicks securely.①②Removing the Battery Pack1. Turn the transceiver OFF. While sliding the latchin the direction of the arrow, as shown in theillustration, slide the battery pack downward andout of the transceiver.
