Page 44 FT-897 OPERATING MANUALMEMORY O PERATION ON “HOME”CHANNEL M EMORIESFour Special one-touch “Home” channels are available, forspecial frequencies you use often. Either “simplex” or “split”frequency/mode data may be stored in the “Home” channellocations. Special “Home” channels are available for HF(any frequency between 1.8 and 29.7 MHz), 50 MHz, 144MHz, and 430 MHz.These memories may prove particularly useful for monitor-ing propagation beacons, providing one-touch recall of thebeacon frequency for a quick check of band conditions.HOME Channel Storage1. Tune the desired frequency, and set the operating mode.If this is an FM channel, set up any required CTCSS/DCS and repeater shift configurations.2. Press the [F] key momentarily, then rotate the MEM/VFO CH knob, as needed, until Multi Function Row“b” [MW, SKIP, TAG] appears on the display.3. Press the [A](MW) key momentarily to enter the“Memory Check” mode.4. Press and hold in the HOME key for one second. Thisstores the frequency data into the “Home” channel loca-tion. As usual, you will hear a double beep to confirmthe successful storage of the frequency data.5. If you wish to store a “Split” frequency pair into the“Home” channel, store the Receive frequency as in steps1 ~ 4 above. Now set the desired Transmit frequency.Once more, press the [A](MW) key momentarily. Pressand hold in the microphone’s PTT switch; while hold-ing the PTT switch, again press and hold in the HOMEkey for one second. This stores the transmit frequencydata into the “Home” channel location.HOME Channel Recall1. Press the HOME key momentarily to recall the HomeChannel on the band group where you currently are op-erating (HF, 50 MHz, 144 MHz, or 430 MHz). The“HOME” indication will appear on the display.2. Press the HOME key once more to return to the previ-ously-used frequency (either a VFO frequency or amemory channel).LABELING M EMORIESYou may wish to append an alpha-numeric “Tag” (label) toa memory or memories, to aid in recollection of the channel’sintended use (such as a club name, etc.). This is easily ac-complished using the Menu mode.1. Recall the memory channel onto which you wish to ap-pended a label.2. Press and hold in the [F] key for one second to enter theMenu mode.3. Rotate the MEM/VFO CH knob to recall Menu ModeNo-056 [MEM TAG].4. Press the MEM/VFO CH knob to enable the program-ming of the label.5. Rotate the DIAL knob to select the first character (asshown below) in the name you with to store, then rotatethe MEM/VFO CH knob clockwise to move to the nextcharacter.6. Again rotate the DIAL knob to select the next number, letter, or symbol, then rotate the MEM/VFO CH knobclockwise to move to the next character’s slot.7. Repeat step 6 as many times as necessary to completethe name tag for the memory, then press and hold in the[F] key for one second to save the A/N (Alpha-Numeric)name entry and exit to normal operation.8. During Memory operation, press the [F] key momen-tarily, then rotate the MEM/VFO CH knob, as needed, until Multi Function Row “b” [MW, SKIP, TAG] appearson the display. Press the [C](TAG) key momentarily toactivate the alpha-numeric Tag. Repeatedly pressing thiskey will toggle operation between “Frequency” displayand “Tag” display.MEMORY O PERATION“Frequency” Display “Tag” DisplayYou can recall Menu Mode No-056 [MEMTAG] instantly by pressing and holding in the[C](TAG) key for one second.
