VX-8GE OPERATING MANUAL82APRS® OPERATIONTRANSMIT AN APRS MESSAGEpear on the display, instead of theremaining number of transmis-sions.You may select the num-bers and letters for the callsign and message with the key buttons (1 through9, and 0) in the same way as labeling memories.STORE THE FIXED FORM MESSAGEThe VX-8GE allows you to store seven fixed form messages (up to 16 characters for eachmessage).1. Press the m key several times until the APRS MESSAGEscreen appears on the display.2. Press and hold the m key for one second to enter theAPRS/GPS Set Mode.3. Rotate the DIAL knob to select Set Mode Item 5: APRSMSG TXT.4. Press the m key briefly to enable adjustment of this SetMode Item.5. Rotate the DIAL knob to select the Message register (1 - 7)you wish to store your message to.6. Press the M key briefly to begin message entry into theselected resister.7. Rotate the DIAL knob (or press the keyboard) to select thefirst character of the message.8. Press the M key to move to the next character.9. Repeat steps 7 and 8 to program the remainder of the mes-sage.10. If you make a mistake, press the B key to backspacethe cursor and then enter the correct character.11. When you have completed your message entry, press the PTT switch to save the newsetting and exit to the APRS MESSAGE screen.
