Maintenance424. Reinstall the filter element in the cup.Make sure the O-ring is in position in thecup. Firmly screw the cup onto the filterhousing.5. Attach the filter assembly to the bracketso that the fuel hoses are attached to thefilter assembly.6. Run the engine and check the filter andlines for leaks.EMU29040Inspecting idling speedWARNINGEWM00450 Do not touch or remove electrical partswhen starting or during operation. Keep hands, hair, and clothes awayfrom the flywheel and other rotatingparts while the engine is running. 2-hp models: The propeller rotateswhenever the engine is running. Do notmove the throttle control lever from thestart position during warm-up. The boatcould unexpectedly start to move,which could result in an accident.CAUTION:ECM00490This procedure must be performed whilethe outboard motor is in the water. Aflushing attachment or test tank can beused.A diagnostic tachometer should be used forthis procedure. Results may vary dependingon whether testing is conducted with theflushing attachment, in a test tank, or with theoutboard motor in the water.1. Start the engine and allow it to warm upfully in neutral until it is running smooth-ly.2-hp model: Warm the engine with thethrottle in the start position or less. If theoutboard is mounted on a boat, be surethe boat is tightly moored.NOTE:Correct idling speed inspection is only possi-ble if the engine is fully warmed up. If notwarmed up fully, the idle speed will measurehigher than normal. If you have difficulty ver-ifying the idle speed, or the idle speed re-quires adjustment, consult a Yamaha dealeror other qualified mechanic.2. Verify whether the idle speed is set tospecification. For idle speed specifica-tions, see page 33.EMU29111Checking wiring and connectors Check that each grounding wire is properlysecured.
