E4-16EMU00388CHECKING PROPELLERwYou could be seriously injured if theengine accidentally starts while you arenear the propeller.8 Before inspecting, removing orinstalling the propeller, remove thespark plug caps from the spark plugs.Also, put the shift control in Neutral,put the main switch in the “OFF” posi-tion and remove the key, and removethe lanyard from the engine stopswitch. Turn off the battery cut-offswitch if your boat has one.8 Do not use your hand to hold the pro-peller when loosening or tightening thepropeller nut. Put a wood blockbetween the cavitation plate and thepropeller to prevent the propeller fromturning.210012602051602054EMU00390Propeller Checking Point8 Check each of the propeller blades forwear, erosion from cavitation or ventila-tion, or other damage.8 Check the splines for wear and damage.8 Check for fish line winding around thepropeller shaft.8 Check the propeller shaft oil seal fordamage.
