Operation45(5) Press in and hold the main switch to op-erate the remote choke system. (The re-mote choke system operates only whenthe main switch is pressed in fully.)TIP:It is not necessary to use the choke whenstarting a warm engine.(6) Turn the main switch to “ ” (start) tostart the engine.(7) Immediately after the engine starts, re-lease the main switch and allow it to re-turn to “ ” (on). The remote chokesystem stops operating when the mainswitch is released. NOTICE: Never turnthe main switch to “ ” (start) whilethe engine is running. Do not keep thestarter motor turning for more than 5seconds. If the starter motor is turnedcontinuously for more than 5 seconds,the battery will be quickly discharged,thus making it impossible to start theengine. The starter can also be dam-aged. If the engine will not start after 5seconds of cranking, return the mainswitch to “ ” (on), wait 10 seconds,then crank the engine again. A continuous flow ofwater from the pilot hole indicates that thewater pump is pumping water through thecooling water passages. If the cooling waterpassages are frozen, it may take a while forwater to start flowing out of the pilot hole.ECM01811If water is not flowing out of the pilot holeat all times while the engine is running,overheating and serious damage couldoccur.
