INSTRUMENT AND CONTROL FUNCTIONS3-143EAU14871Adjusting the shock absorberassemblyThe shock absorber assembly is locat-ed under the rider seat and is equippedwith a spring preload adjusting ring.CAUTION:ECA10100Never attempt to turn an adjustingmechanism beyond the maximum orminimum settings.Adjust the spring preload as follows.1. Remove the rider seat. (See page3-9.)2. Remove each quick fastener fromthe ignitor unit panel by pushingthe center in with a screwdriver,then pulling the fastener out.3. Pull the ignitor unit panel out to theright.4. Remove the mudguard by remov-ing each quick fastener.XVS11WXVS11AWW/XVS11ATW5. To increase the spring preload andthereby harden the suspension,turn the adjusting ring in direction(a). To decrease the spring pre-load and thereby soften the sus-pension, turn the adjusting ring indirection (b).NOTE: Align the appropriate notch in theadjusting ring with the position in-dicator on the shock absorber.
