Changing the Engine OilThe engine oil on a new engine becomescontaminated from the initial break-in ofinternal parts. It is very important that theinitial oil replacement is performed asscheduled. It is easiest and most effective to drain theengine oil after operation while the engine isstill warm. WARNING! If the engine oilmust be drained while it is still hot, stayclear of the hot engine oil to avoid beingburned. ALWAYS wear eye protection.1. Turn the engine OFF.2. NOTICE: Prevent dirt and debrisfrom contaminating engine oil.Carefully clean the dipstick and thesurrounding area before removingthe dipstick. Remove the engine oildipstick. Attach the oil drain pump (ifequipped) and pump out the oil. Foreasier draining, remove the engine oilfill cap.3. Fill with new engine oil. See AddingEngine Oil on page 27. NOTICE:NEVER mix different types of engineoil. This may adversely affect thelubricating properties of the engineoil. NEVER overfill. Overfilling mayresult in white exhaust smoke, engine overspeed or internaldamage.4. Perform a trial run and check for oilleaks.5. Approximately 10 minutes afterstopping the engine, remove the oildipstick and check the oil level. Add oilif the level is too low.Replacing the Engine Oil FilterElement1. Turn the engine OFF.2.
