2. PRODUCT EXPLANATION9EN2. PRODUCT EXPLANATION2.1 Use, Propulsion System, Etc.The engine is equipped with a marine gearor a sail drive unit. The marine gear outputshaft connects with the propeller shaft.In order to obtain full performance fromyour engine, it is imperative that you checkthe displacement and structure of the hulland use a propeller of the appropriate size.As new boats are used, owners add addi-tional equipment and completely fill thefuel and water tanks adding to the overalldisplacement (weight) of the vessel. Extracanvas enclosures, bottom paint, and bot-tom fouling can add additional hull resis-tance. It is recommended that new vesselsbe propped so the engines can operate at100-200 rpm above rated rpm to allow forsome added weight and hull resistance.Failure to do so can lead to reduced vesselperformance, lead to increased smoke lev-els and cause permanent damage to yourengines.The engine must be installed correctly withsafe cooling water and exhaust piping andelectrical wiring. Any auxiliary equipmentattached to the engine should be easy touse and accessible for service.To handle the drive equipment, propulsionsystems (including the propeller) and otheronboard equipment be sure to observe theinstructions and cautions given in the op-eration manuals supplied by the shipyardand equipment manufacturers.The laws of some countries may requirehull and engine inspections, depending onthe use, size and cruising area of the boat.The installation, fitting and surveying ofthis engine all require specialized knowl-edge and engineering skills. Consult Yan-mar's local subsidiary in your region oryour distributor or dealer.This engine is designed for pleasureboat applications.The engine is designed to be operatedat:Maximum throttle (3600-3800 rpm) forless than 5% of total engine time. (30minutes out of every 10 hours)Cruising Speed (3400 rpm or lower) forless than 90% of total engine time (9hours out of every 10 hours)Never modify this product or releasethe limit devices (which limit enginespeed, fuel injection quantity, etc.).Modification will impair the safety andperformance of the product and func-tions and shorten the product life.Please note that any troubles arisingfrom modification of the product willnot be covered by our warranty.NOTICEWARNING
