10MAINTENANCE AND CLEANINGBefore carrying out any maintenance and cleaningoperations, make sure that the appliance isISOLA-TED from the electricity supply.Helpful Tipsï Make sure the bottom of utensils and cooking areasare clean and dry.ï Select the correct heat settings and use saucepanslarge enough to accommodate the food to eliminateboilovers and splattering.ï If possible, wipe up food spills from adjacent heatingareas before using the areas for cooking.Noteï Use recommended ceramic hob cleaners only.Cleaningï To keep exterior trims and control panel in a spotlesscondition, wipe after each use with a warm soapycloth.ï Wipe the control knobs with a damp cloth, which hasbeen wrung out in hot, soapy water, then dry tho-roughly.ï Remove any food spills on the hob as soon aspossible with a damp cloth.ï Make sure that the hob is cool before applying anycleaning materials.Ceramic HobsUse Cleaner Conditioner daily. As it cleans, it leaves aprotective coating of silicone on the smooth surface, which helps to prevent scratches and abrasions inwhich food particles can collect. It also helps to preventbuild up of mineral deposits and will make future clean-ing easier.ï Apply a dab of cleaner in the centre of each cookingzone to be cleaned (for normal cleaning, start withabout 5 ml spoonful of cleaner, apply more if needed).Dampen a cloth and then proceed to clean the hob.To remove more stubborn marks use a slightly dam-pened non-stick pan cleaner (e.g. Scotchbrite orVileda).ï Wipe off this application with another clean dampcloth and dry thoroughly.ï Any smearing or hazing on the surface can be removedwith a lightly dampened cloth and then be polishedwith a soft dry cloth.Noteï If a wet paper towel is used to remove spills from awarm cooking area, be careful to avoid steam burns.ï Do not use a sponge or dishcloth. They will leave afilm of water and possible detergent on heatingareas, which will turn brown and resemble discoloura-tion, next time the area is heated. If this happens, apply Cleaner Conditioner to remove it.How To Deal With Metal Marksï Metal deposits can be identified as grey/brownmarks on the ceramic surface and are usually causedby dragging saucepans with aluminium bases, parti-cularly when new, across the ceramic surface.ï To avoid these marks, protect the surface of the hobwith Cleaner Conditioner and lift the saucepansacross the heated areas. Ensure that new aluminiumbased saucepans are well scrubbed on the base toremove any rough edges and take off any depositsleft from manufacture.ï The marks are easily removable, providing they arecleaned off straight away using the recommendedcleaners, and are not allowed to burn onto theceramic surface for long periods.About DiscolourationDiscolouration occurs on the surface not IN it.By following proper care and cleaning recommen-dations the surface will remain clean and bright. The cooking surface should be cleaned thoroughlyeach day to remove all visible spills. Cleaner Conditionerhas been specially formulated, use only as much asnecessary. If the Ceaner Conditioner is used too gene-rously, a heavy film may be left that will burn on anddiscolour when the areas are heated. When this occurs, lightly scrub the surface with a dampened non-stickpan cleaner, this will help to loosen the excess CleanerConditioner. Then wipe the surface with a dampenendcloth and polish with a soft dry cloth.Important notesï In the event of the hob being scratched, spills willcollect and appear as fine lines. These are not fullyremovable but can be minimised by the daily use ofCleaner Conditioner. These scratches do not affectthe cooking peformance.ï Spills from sugar solutions MUST be removed fromthe hob before the syrup has set, otherwise damageto the glass ceramic surface will occur.ï Do not place aluminium foil dishes on the hot surfaceas these will cause damage to the hob.ï Hobrite and Corning Cleaner Conditioners are thecurrent recommended cleaner for use on the ceramichob.ï Cleaner Conditioner is for the ceramic hob only andmust NOT be used as general all purpose cleaner.
