20Cleaning the hobClean the hotplate top using a mild abrasive.Take care not to damage the sparkelectrodes. If the spark electrodes aredamaged the burners will not light.You can remove the pan supports, burnercaps and burner crowns to clean them.Again take care not to damage the sparkelectrodes.Clean the burner crowns and pan supportsby soaking them in very hot soapy water.Aluminium based saucepans can leaveshiny metal marks on the pan supports. Youcan remove any stubborn stains by scouringwith a soap impregnated steel wool pad. Ifyou look after the burner crowns and pansupports in this way they will stay reasonablyclean. However the surface will dull withtime. After cleaning the appliance parts, drythem thoroughly before you put them back.When replacing hotplateburner parts1. Crown to body. (Do not try to force thecrown on to the body).Make sure that the hole in the crown isover the electrode. Check that thelocation pegs sit in the slots in the body.When the crown is in this position let itfall freely on to the body. Check that thecrown can be moved slightly from sideto side.2. Cap to crown. Place cap centrally onthe top of crown (enamel side up).Move sideways and front to back tocheck the cap is properly fitted.3. Check for ignition. If a burner will notlight then you need to check the crownand cap positions.
