44 3Com VCX V7111 VoIP SIP Gateways User ManualConfiguring the Windows NT DHCP ServerIf a Microsoft Windows NT DHCP server is used in your organization, the server can be usedin reservation mode to provide an IP address and other necessary information to the VCXV7111 Gateway.To configure the Microsoft Windows NT DHCP Server to assign IP address information toBootP clients, add a reservation for each BootP client.For information about how to add a reservation, see “the Managing Client Reservations”Help topic in the DHCP Manager.The reservation builds an association between the Media Access Control address (12 digits,provided in VCX V7111 documentation) and the IP address. Windows NT Server providesthe IP address based on the VCX V7111 Media Access Control (MAC) address in the BootPrequest frame.To configure the Microsoft Windows NT DHCP server to provide boot file information toBootP clients, edit the BootP Table in DHCP Manager. The BootP Table is located in theServer Properties dialog box that can be accessed from the Server menu. For informationabout how to edit the BootP Table, view the BootP Table Help topic in DHCP Manager.The following parameters must be entered: Local IP address – The IP address of your VCX V7111 Gateway. Subnet mask – See “BootP and TFTP Procedures” for the mask limits. Gateway IP address – The default Gateway IP address Boot File name – Optional, however, the boot file name normally should not be used.This field is only used for software upgrade, see “VCX V7111 Software Upgrade”.See “Appendix D: DHCP Server Configuration” on page 157 for detailed description ofconfiguration of Windows NT DHCP server.VCX V7111 Software UpgradeGeneral Upgrade ProcedureVCX V7111 Gateways include on-board flash memory already programmed with applicationsoftware. The following procedure replaces the old stored software with the new version. Torun this procedure, BootP and TFTP servers are required. A web browser can be usedinstead of the BootP server (see “Web Management” on page 106).The file extensions CMP and INI should be written in lower case letters.Whenupgrading the internal software (either from a TFTP Server or from the EmbeddedWeb Server) it is mandatory to download the ram.cmp file and all other relatedfiles: INI, coefficient, and call progress tone.
