28 CHAPTER 3: VCX V7000 BASIC T ELEPHONES — M ODELS 3101 AND 3101SPVCX TelephoneModel 3101 and3101SP OverviewYour VCX 3101 Basic Telephones must be configured to work in an IPnetwork. This means your phone must be assigned an IP address so it cancommunicate with other VCX phones and devices. Typically, youradministrator assigns IP parameters, including an IP address, as part ofthe installation process.Your administrator must also assign a password for your telephone. Thispassword associates your telephone extension (and mailbox) with youraccount. This may allow you to configure another VCX phone in thesystem to duplicate your primary phone (see the note below). This meansif you are away from your primary phone (for example, in a differentoffice), you can program the local phone to use your extension. Any callsmade to your extension will ring in both locations and you can accessyour mailbox from either phone.It is also possible for an administrator to lock an extension to a particularphone. If this is the case, you cannot program the phone to use yourextension.To program the local phone with your primary phone’s extension:1 Press Feature + 600 + 5 + 6 to log out of local phone.2 Press Feature + 600 + 5 + 4 and enter the number of your primaryphone.3 Press Feature + 600 + 5 + 6 and enter the password for your primaryphone. This associates your extension with the local phone and logs youin to the network.The VCX Model 3101 Basic Telephone does not include a microphone,which means it does not support speaker phone operation. The VCXModel 3101SP Basic Telephone has a microphone and supports speakerphone operation. All other features operate the same on the twotelephones.
