3Com VCX V7111 Fast Track Installation Guide 15Rack Mount Safety Instructions (UL)When installing the chassis in a rack, be sure to implement the following safetyinstructions recommended by Underwriters Laboratories:Elevated Operating Ambient - If installed in a closed or multi-unit rackassembly, the operating ambient temperature of the rack environment may begreater than room ambient. Therefore, consideration should be given to installingthe equipment in an environment compatible with the maximum ambienttemperature (Tma) specified by the manufacturer.Reduced Air Flow - Installation of the equipment in a rack should be such thatthe amount of air flow required for safe operation on the equipment is notcompromised.Mechanical Loading - Mounting of the equipment in the rack should be such thata hazardous condition is not achieved due to uneven mechanical loading.Circuit Overloading - Consideration should be given to the connection of theequipment to the supply circuit and the effect that overloading of the circuits mighthave on overcurrent protection and supply wiring. Appropri-ate consideration ofequipment nameplate ratings should be used when addressing this concern.Reliable Earthing - Reliable earthing of rack-mounted equipment should bemaintained. Particular attention should be given to supply connections other thandirect connections to the branch circuit (e.g., use of power strips.)Installing the 2, 4, or 8 Port VCX V7111 in a 19-Inch RackThe 2, 4, and 8 port gateways are installed into a standard 19-inch rack by the addition oftwo supplied brackets (1 short, 1 long). The 8 port with brackets for rack installation is shownin Figure 3.To install the 2, 4, or 8 port VCX V7111 gateways in a 19-inch rack, follow these steps:1 Remove the two screws on one side of the device nearest the front panel.2 Insert the peg on the short bracket into the third air vent down on the column of air ventsnearest the front panel.3 Swivel the bracket until the holes in the bracket line up with the two empty screw holeson the device.4 Use the screws found in the devices’ package to attach the short bracket to the side ofthe device.5 Remove the two screws on the other side of the device nearest the front panel.6 Position the long bracket so that the holes in the bracket line up with the two emptyscrew holes on the device.
