Electrical installation583ADW000194R0201 DCS800 Hardware Manual e bConnecting the signal and control cablesThe cables for digital signals, which are longer than 3 m and all cables for analoguesignals, must be screened. Each screen must be connected at both ends by metalclamps or comparable means directly on clean metal surfaces, if both earthing pointsbelong to the same earth line. Otherwise a capacitor must be connected to earth onone end. In the converter cubicle this kind of connection must be made directly onthe sheet metal as close as possible to the terminals and if the cable comes fromoutside also on the PE bar. At the other end of the cable the screen must be wellconnected with the housing of the signal emitter or receiver.Routing the cablesRoute the motor cable away from other cable routes. Motor cables of several drivescan be run in parallel installed next to each other. It is recommended that the motorcable, input power cable and control cables be installed on separate trays. Avoidlong parallel runs of motor cables with other cables in order to decreaseelectromagnetic interference caused by the rapid changes in the drive outputvoltage.Where control cables must cross power cables make sure they are arranged at anangle as near to 90 degrees as possible. Do not run extra cables through the drive. The cable trays must have good electrical bonding to each other and to thegrounding electrodes. Aluminium tray systems can be used to improve localequalizing of potential.A diagram of the cable routing is shown below.Connection of a cablescreen with the aid ofmetal clamp to the me-tal surface of the PCBcarrier at a DCS con-verter90 ° min 500 mm (20 in.)Motor cableInput power cableControl cablesmin 200 mm (8 in.)min 300 mm (12 in.)Motor cablePower cableDrive230 V24 V24 V 230 VLead 24 V and 230 Vcontrol cables in separateducts inside the cabinet. Not allowed unless the 24 Vcable is insulated for 230 V orinsulated with an insulationsleeving for 230 V.Control cable duct
