1.2.3.4 Safety risks related to pneumatic/hydraulic systemsGeneralSpecial safety regulations apply to pneumatic and hydraulic systems.NoteAll components that remain pressurized after separating the machine from thepower supply must be provided with clearly visible drain facilities and a warningsign that indicates the need for pressure relief before adjustments or performingany maintenance on the manipulator system.Residual energy• Residual energy can be present in these systems. After shutdown, particularcare must be taken.• The pressure must be released in the complete pneumatic or hydraulicsystems before starting to repair them.• Work on hydraulic equipment may only be performed by persons with specialknowledge and experience of hydraulics.• All pipes, hoses, and connections have to be checked regularly for leaks anddamage. Damage must be repaired immediately.• Splashed oil may cause injury or fire.Safe design• Gravity may cause any parts or objects held by these systems to drop.• Dump valves should be used in case of emergency.• Shot bolts should be used to prevent tools, etc., from falling due to gravity.3HAC033453-001 Revision: H 27© Copyright 2009-2013 ABB.
