GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONSThe following provides grounding instruction information from the Underwriters’ Laboratory UL60950Standard for Safety of Information Technology Equipment Including Electrical Business Equipment, ThirdEdition, of December 1, 2000.An equipment grounding conductor that is not smaller in size than the ungrounded branch-circuit supplyconductors is to be installed as part of the circuit that supplies the product or system. Bare, covered, orinsulated grounding conductors are acceptable. Individually covered or insulated equipment groundingconductors shall have a continuous outer finish that is either green, or green with one or more yellowstripes. The equipment grounding conductor is to be connected to ground at the service equipment. The attachment-plug receptacles in the vicinity of the product or system are all to be of a grounding type, and the equipment grounding conductors serving these receptacles are to be connected to earth ground atthe service equipment.A supplementary equipment grounding conductor shall be installed between the product or system andground that is in addition to the equipment grounding conductor in the power supply cord. The supplementary equipment grounding conductor shall not be smaller in size than the ungroundedbranch-circuit supply conductors. The supplementary equipment grounding conductor shall be connectedto the product at the terminal provided, and shall be connected to ground in a manner that will retain theground connection when the product is unplugged from the receptacle. The connection to ground of thesupplementary equipment grounding conductor shall be in compliance with the rules for terminatingbonding jumpers at Part K or Article 250 of the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70. Termination ofthe supplementary equipment grounding conductor is permitted to be made to building steel, to a metalelectrical raceway system, or to any grounded item that is permanently and reliably connected to theelectrical service equipment ground. The supplemental grounding conductor shall be connected to the equipment using a number 8 ring terminaland should be fastened to the grounding lug provided on the back panel of the equipment. The ringterminal should be installed using the appropriate crimping tool (AMP P/N 59250 T-EAD Crimping Toolor equivalent).5. MOUNTING OPTIONSThe ATLAS 550 unit may be used on a tabletop or installed in a 19-inch or 23-inch rackmount orwallmount configuration. ADTRAN includes 19-inch rackmount ears with the ATLAS 550 shipment(23-inch rackmount ears are sold separately). For a rackmount installation, the ATLAS 550 allowsflush-face mount, face-forward mount, center mount, and rear mount. The rackmount ears may also beturned face down for wall mounting. When wall-mounted, the ATLAS 550 unit may be installed witheither side up and the front and back panels facing sideways.Rackmounting the ATLAS 550The ATLAS 550 is a rackmountable unit which can be installed into 19- or 23-inch equipment racks. (TheATLAS 550 ships with 19-inch rackmount ears installed; 23-inch rackmount ears can be ordered fromADTRAN - P/N 3265379-2@C). Follow these steps to mount the ATLAS 550 into a rack:
