IP 700 Series Phone Administrator Guide Automating Configuration61200770E1-31C Copyright © 2009 ADTRAN, Inc. 357. AUTOMATING CONFIGURATIONMany installations use DHCP and configuration files to automate setting parameters for ADTRAN’s IPphones. This section describes how to use DHCP and configuration files for this purpose. When an IP 700Series phone boots, it downloads one or more configuration files and begins operation using theparameters received in the files. When more than one source exists for a parameter, it is important tounderstand the order of precedence assigned to each source. Refer to Precedence of Parameter Sources onpage 19 for more information.DHCP SettingsDHCP can be used to provide the following settings to the IP phone:• IP address (IpAddress)• Subnet mask (SubNetMask)• Router IP address (GatewayAddress)• DNS address (DnsAddress)• FTP/TFTP server address (FtpServers, TftpServers)If a site-specific DHCP option is set, it provides an FTP/TFTP server address from which to retrieveconfiguration files. Setting these parameters is explained further in Server Settings below. The ADTRANIP 700 Series phones use the site-specific DHCP option 157 to specify the value of the followingparameters:• FtpServers• TftpServers• VlanTagging• VlanID• FtpLogin• FtpPasswordEach parameter must contain a <name>=<value> pair. For example:FtpServers=192.168.0.10, FtpLogin=Toledo, FtpPassword=OhioServer SettingsA path to the configuration files’ location on the FTP/TFTP server is necessary for automatic configurationto take place. The path is indicated using the FtpServers and TftpServers parameters. The value of eitherTftpServers or FtpServers must be manually set using the administrator’s Web interface, phone’s userinterface, or DHCP option 157. FtpServers and TftpServers are mutually exclusive. One or the othermust be specified, but not both. The following is an example of this parameter setting:FtpServers=192.168.0.10:config-directory.
