183Chapter K - Diagnosis Program GDTMONK.1 Loading GDTMONAs mentioned before, the GDTMON program is available for various operating sy stems. It can be used either locally or remotely. This means that all GDT Controllers in a networkcan be monitored and serviced from one (or several) workstation. The communication b e-tween the GDT Controller(s) and the GDTMON program is based on the NETBIOS or NCPEprotocols. Thus, for example, it is possible to monitor the GDT Controller in an OS/2 wor k-station or the GDT Controller in the Novell NetWare fileserver from a Windows 95 workst a-tion.In order to be able to access a certain computer system with its GDT Controller remotely onthe network, a special communication module has to be loaded first, which routes the i n-formation through the network. For a Novell NetWare fileserver this is the CTRLSRV.NLMmodule (NCPE). For Windows NT (server and workstation), Windows 95 and OS/2 (serverand workstation) this is the NBSERVx.EXE module (NETBIOS). While the module is loadedit searches for a CTRLSRV.CFG (Novell NetWare) or NBSERV.CFG (Windows NT, Windows95 and OS/2) file, which includes the definition of the access rights of the different usersand their passwords. The CFG file assigns every user to two different access levels. Accesslevel 0 gives the user all functions to view and change the controller-, disk-drive and disk-array-settings. Access level 1 entitles the user only to view the various settings and pe r-formance data. The Windows NT, Windows 95 and OS/2 driver diskettes include for the supported prot o-cols so-called DLLs. Example: If the MON4NETB.DLL file is located in the same directoryas GDTMON.EXE file for Windows NT, the NETBIOS protocol is automatically used for theGDTMON on this system. As soon as the NETBIOS support of this operating system is i n-stalled during the network configuration, the GDTMON on this system can communicatethrough this protocol with another system in the network which has a GDT Controller. The following drivers for the ëremoteí GDTMONitor are currently available:OS/2GDTMON32.EXE GDTMONitor for OS/2MON2NETB.DLL NETBIOS DLL for OS/2MON2NCPE.DLL NCPE DLL for OS/2NBSRV2.EXE NETBIOS Server for OS/2NBSRV.CFG Configuration file for NetBios ServerNBCLEAN2.EXE NETBIOS analysis programWindows NTGDTMON.EXE GDTMONitor for Windows NTMON4NETB.DLL NETBIOS DLL for Windows NTNBSRV.CFG Configuration file for NETBIOS ServerNBCLEAN4.EXE NETBIOS analysis programWindows 95GDTMON.EXE GDTMONitor for Windows 95MON5NETB.DLL NETBIOS DLL for Windows 95NBSRV5.EXE NETBIOS Server for Windows 95NBSRV.CFG Configuration file for NETBIOS ServerNBCLEAN5.EXE NETBIOS analysis programThe MS-DOS GDTMON allows remote access, too. The DLLs are integrated into the GDT-MON.EXE file, thus there is no NETBIOS server available for MS-DOS. Since there is noNETBIOS support within MS-DOS, it is necessary to load the NETBIOS program to accessfrom a MS-DOS workstation through the network a GDT Controller in a Windows NT andOS/2 workstation or server, or a Windows 95 workstation. NETBIOS is part of the Novell
