OmniCare EVC SystemInstallation & Commissioning Manual82 OmniCare issue 1COM MUNICATIONS6.4 F AULT F INDING - B ATTERY C HARGERThe battery charger used in the OmniCare EVC System system isnot a “Float Charger”.It is a “Cyclic Constant Current” charger that not only charges thebatteries, but also constantly monitors the condition of thebatteries.The Battery Charger and Monitoring Conditions are described inthe following sections.6.4.1 Battery Charger Normal OperationThe Battery Charger initialises when Mains Power is applied orafter the “RESET” button is pressed, and operates as follows:1. The charger will check to see if batteries are connected.If batteries are not found, both the “Battery HIGH” and“Battery LOW” Fault LEDs will be illuminated and theCharger will be turned off.2. If batteries are detected, the charger will attempt to chargethem to a nominal 27.6VDC, and then stop charging.3. The battery voltage is then monitored to assess the conditionof the batteries.4. The charging process repeats every 6 hours.If the charging voltage needs to be checked, pressing the “RESET”button will force the charger to start charging again.N OTE : To ensure correct operation of the OmniCare EVC System System,the BATTERIES must always be connected first, BEFOREthe MAINS is applied.The Charger may display fault LEDs and not charge the batteriescorrectly if these power connections are made in the wrong order.N OTE : If the batteries are in a fully charged state the Charger will onlyoperate for a few seconds after pressing the "RESET" button.
