Overview EZ-SCREEN LPInstruction ManualTroubleshooting and Maintenance5.3 Electrical and Optical NoiseThe EZ-SCREEN LP is designed and manufactured to be highlyresistant to electrical and optical noise and to operate reliablyin industrial settings. However, serious electrical and/or opticalnoise may cause a random Trip or Latch condition. In veryextreme electrical noise cases, a Lockout is possible. In orderto minimize the effects of transitory noise, the EZ-SCREEN LPwill respond to noise only if the noise is detected on multipleconsecutive scans. If random nuisance Trips occur, check the following:• Poor connection between the sensor and earth ground;• Optical interference from adjacent light screens or otherphotoelectrics; or• Sensor input or output wires routed too close to “noisy” wiring.Checking for sources of electrical noise: It is very importantthat the light screen sensors have a good earth ground. Withoutthis, the System can act like an antenna and random Trips andLockouts can occur. All EZ-SCREEN LP wiring is low voltage; running these wiresalongside power wires, motor/servo wires, or other high-voltagewiring, can inject noise into the System. It is good wiring practice(and may be required by code) to isolate EZ-SCREEN LP wiresfrom high-voltage wires. The Banner model BT-1 beam tracker (see Section 2.4) is agood tool for detecting electrical noise (transient spikes andsurges). Cover the lens of the beam tracker with electrical tapeto block optical light from the receiver lens. Press the “RCV”button, and position the beam tracker on the wires going to theEZ-SCREEN LP or any other nearby wires. Noise caused bythe switching of inductive loads will cause the beam tracker’sindicator to light; address the noise problem by installing propertransient suppression across the load.Checking for sources of optical noise: Turn off theEZ-SCREEN LP emitter, completely block its beams, or open theTest input, then use a Banner BT-1 beam tracker to check forlight at the receiver. Press the “RCV” button and move the beamtracker along the full length of the receiver’s sensing window. If the beam tracker’s indicator lights, check for light from othersources (other safety light screens, grids, or points, or standardphotoelectric sensors) by “tracking down” the emitted light fromthem.5.4 Servicing and MaintenanceCleaningEZ-SCREEN LP standard emitters and receivers areconstructed of aluminum with a yellow painted finish and arerated IP65. Lens covers are acrylic. Emitters and receivers arebest cleaned using mild detergent or window cleaner and asoft cloth. Avoid cleaners containing alcohol, as they maydamage the acrylic lens covers.Warranty ServiceEZ-SCREEN LP components are designed for reliability. Donot open the emitter or receiver housings, other than theconfiguration access door. (Following configuration, close theaccess door and tighten the screw to maintain IP65 status.)Sensors contain no field-replaceable components. If repairis necessary, do not attempt to repair an emitter or receiveryourself; return the unit to the factory, as described below.1. Contact a Banner Factory Application Engineer at theaddress or numbers listed below or on the back page:Banner Engineering Corp.,9714 Tenth Avenue NorthMinneapolis, MN 55441They will attempt to troubleshoot the System fromyour description of the problem. If they conclude that acomponent is defective, they will issue a return merchandiseauthorization (RMA) number for your paperwork, and giveyou the proper shipping address.2. Pack the component(s) carefully. Damage which occursduring return shipping is not covered by warranty.Buy: www.ValinOnline.com | Phone 844-385-3099 | Email: CustomerService@valin.com
