How the System WorksUnless disabled, the URPA will turn on automaticallywhen the shift lever is moved into REVERSE (R). Whenthe system turns on, the three lights on the displaywill illuminate for one and a half seconds to let you knowthat the system is working. If your vehicle is moving inREVERSE (R) at a speed greater than 3 mph (5 km/h),the red light will flash to remind you that the systemdoes not work at a speed greater than 3 mph (5 km/h).If an object is detected at a REVERSE (R) speed ofless than 3 mph (5 km/h), one of the following will occur:A chime will sound the first time an object is detectedbetween 20 inches (0.5 m) and 5 feet (1.5 m) away.Description English Metricamber light 5 ft. 1.5 mamber/amber lights 40 in. 1.0 mamber/amber/red lights &continuous chime 20 in. 0.5 mamber/amber/red lightsflashing & continuouschime1 ft 0.3 mURPA cannot detect objects that are above liftgatelevel. In order for the rear sensors to recognizean object, it must be within detection range behindthe vehicle.When the System Does Not Seem to WorkProperlyThe light may flash red when the vehicle is inREVERSE (R) if the ultrasonic sensors are not keptclean. So be sure to keep your rear bumper free of mud,dirt, snow, ice and slush. Other conditions that may affectsystem performance include things like the vibrationsfrom a jackhammer or the compression of air brakes on avery large truck. If after cleaning the rear bumper andthen driving forward at least 15 mph (25 km/h), thedisplay continues to flash red, see your dealer.If a trailer was attached to your vehicle, or a bicycle oran object was on the back of, or hanging out of yourcargo area during your last drive cycle, the lightmay also flash red. The light will continue to flashwhenever in REVERSE (R) until your vehicle is drivenforward at least 15 mph (25 km/h) without anyobstructions behind the vehicle.For cleaning instructions, see Washing Your Vehicle onpage 5-103.3-20
