Regular Maintenance 61Regular MaintenanceClean the scanner on a regular basis as described below to maintain peakscanning quality.CAUTION• When cleaning the scanner or inside of the scanner, turn OFFthe Power Switch and unplug the power cord from the outlet.• The power needs to be ON when cleaning the rollers and theshading boards. Be careful of electric shocks when working onthe scanner while the power is ON.Cleaning the ScannerTo clean the exterior of the scanner, dampen a cloth with water or a milddetergent, wring the cloth out thoroughly, and then wipe the dirt away. Thenuse a dry, soft cloth to wipe away any moisture.CAUTIONNever use paint thinner, alcohol, or other organic solvents toclean the scanner. Such solvents can damage or discolor theexterior of the scanner. They also create a risk of fire andelectrical shock.Cleaning inside the ScannerDust in the scanner may cause the sensors to malfunction or leave marks onthe images. Periodically use a blower to clean dust from inside the scanner.
