Before formatting, copy imageson the memory card to a computer, or take other steps to back them up.1 Access the [Format] screen.zz Choose [Format], and then press the<m> button.2 Choose [OK].zz Press the <o><p> buttons to choose[Cancel], press the <q><r> buttons tochoose [OK], and then press the <m>button.3 Format the memory card.zz To begin the formatting process, pressthe <o><p> buttons to choose [OK],and then press the <m> button.zz When formatting is finished, [Memorycard formatting complete] is displayed.Press the <m> button.• Formatting or erasing data on a memory card only changes filemanagement information on the card and does not erase the datacompletely. When transferring or disposing of memory cards, takesteps to protect personal information if necessary, as by physicallydestroying cards.• The total card capacity indicated on the formatting screen may be less thanthe advertised capacity.Low-Level FormattingPerform low-level formatting in the following cases: [Memory card error] isdisplayed, the camera is not working correctly, card image reading/writing isslower, continuous shooting is slower, or movie recording suddenly stops.Low-level formatting erases all data on a memory card. Before low-levelformatting, copy images on the memory card to a computer, or take othersteps to back them up.zz On the screen in step 2 of “FormattingMemory Cards” (=115), press the<o><p> buttons to choose [Low LevelFormat], and then press the <q><r>buttons to select this option. A [ ] icon isdisplayed.zz Follow steps 2 – 3 in “Formatting MemoryCards” (=115) to continue with theformatting process.• Low-level formatting takes longer than “Formatting Memory Cards” (=115),because data is erased from all storage regions of the memory card.• You can cancel low-level formatting in progress by choosing [Stop]. In thiscase, all data will be erased, but the memory card can be used normally.
