Video28Zooming: Optical, Advanced and DigitalZoomThe camcorder offers three types ofzoom: optical, advanced and digitalzoom. You can also change the zoomspeed.Selecting the Zoom TypeOptions Default valueUsing the ViewfinderWhen recording in bright places itmay be difficult to use the LCDscreen. In such case, change thebrightness of the LCD screen( 24, 57) or use the viewfinderinstead. To use the viewfinder, keepthe LCD panel closed*.Adjust the viewfinder as necessarywith the dioptric adjustment lever.* The LCD screen and the viewfindercan be used simultaneously onlywhen the LCD panel is turned180 degrees to face the subject( 23).( 19)[OPTICAL] (37x, 32x)The zoom range is limited to the opticalmagnification ratio of the lens.[ADVANCED] (Advanced Zoom)In addition to the optical zoom range, thecamcorder processes the image digitally toobtain a larger zoom range without anydeterioration in image quality. When recordingmovies with a 16:9 aspect ratio, the field of view(picture angle) will change. Refer to the table inthe NOTES section.[DIGITAL] (2000x)When this option is selected, the camcorder willswitch to digital zoom (light blue area on thezoom indicator) when you zoom in beyond theoptical zoom range (white area on the zoomindicator).
