2. PROBLEMS LEFT REMAININGS900 / S820 Part 4: Appendix Appendix4-21S900/S9000/S820 issuesIssue Model Cause Countermeasure RemarksRepeating feed failure of all sizes of PC101Occurs only in L/L environment. Extremelylow occurrence rate. All There is insufficient contact between the feedroller and the separation pad, and if self-cleaningis not performed to remove paper dust on therubber of the roller, the friction coefficient islowered. When feeding problems (includingrepeating failure) occur, perform feed rollercleaning 2 times.(Note that excessive cleaning will wear outthe rollers)Edge of the page contacts headThe leading or trailing edge of the papercontacts the head and leaves black traces.1) Occurs with borderless paperMisaligned printing may affect postcards.2) Occurs with non-borderless normal andHG-201 paperProblem occurs with HG-201 even whenthe paper lever is set to envelope thickness.Note that there is no problem printingwithin the recommended print area ofnon-borderless paper. All (1) Due to the elimination of the paper depressorof models to date in order to allow borderlessprinting.(2) Paper curling (especially HG-201 afterprinting)1) Paper which supports borderlessprinting* Have the user understand that there isthe possibility of ink stains at the leadingand trailing edges when borderlessprinting.* Flatten curled paper.* Set the paper thickness lever to envelopethickness.Recommend non-borderless printing withthe recommended print area.Have the user understand that althoughborderless printing is possible with normalpaper, it is not recommended.Inappropriate color hues at quality settingsof 1 (highest quality) and 2 (high quality)Conspicuous with grey, barely noticablewith other colors. Problem papers areGP301, HR101.All Quality settings 2 (4 pass, uni-directional) and1 (8 pass, bi-directional) use the same colorparameters. As per specifications. In the borderless printing durability test, staining of the reverse side of the paperoccurred. The right side ribs cannot becleaned.Occurs at a low level when more than 3000sheets (1000 borderless postcards) but, atan unacceptably high level when 6000sheets (2000 borderless postcards) are fed. This problem will only begin to affect theaverage user (300 postcards per year) after4 years or so, and so is not a major issueAll Paper dust which absorbs ink particlesaccumulates on the platen ribs and causesstaining. There are two causes:(1) Significant paper dust accumulates fromfactory sizing of Japanese postcards and KII201.(2) Ink mist attaches easily to paper edges.Cleaning method for after borderlessprinting or the platen has been printed(purge side of the platen):1. Power the printer ON and open theaccess cover.2. With the head at replacement position, remove the power cord.3. Clean the purge-side platen ribs with Q-tips etc.
