19SPECIAL OPERATION, HEATING — Outdoor cooling unitsmay be matched with heat pump ceiling-suspended fan coilunits to provide supplemental electric heat. All other operationis the same as a cooling-only system, except these units haveheating capability as follows:When the room thermostat initiates a call for heating, theelectric heater is turned on. The indoor unit fan will start at thesame time, if it was not already running. When the heating requirement is satisfied, the room thermo-stat will open, and the heater will turn off.CLEANING AND MAINTENANCEFor proper system operation, perform the cleaning andmaintenance operations in Table 6.Lubrication — The indoor-fan, automatic air sweep, and theoutdoor-fan motors are factory lubricated and require no oiling.Air Filters (Fig. 23)REMOVE AIR FILTERS — Remove filters by pulling themstraight out.CLEAN OR REPLACE FILTERS — Filters can be vacu-umed or washed in warm water. Shake filter to remove any ex-cess water, and replace by sliding filter behind grille until filtersnaps in place. Refer to Fig. 23.If the filter has begun to break down or is torn, replace it.Replacement filters are available through your dealer.Table 6 — Cleaning and Maintenance ScheduleNOTE: Maintenance procedures for the outdoor units are in the individual unit installation instructions. To avoid the possibility of electric shock, before performingany cleaning and maintenance operations, always turn offpower to the system by pressing the mode button on theremote thermostat until the display shows “OFF,” and turn-ing off the outdoor disconnect switch located near the out-door unit. If the indoor unit is on a separate switch, be sureto turn this disconnect off as well.Do not wash filter in water over 120 F (to avoid shrinkage).Do not expose filter to fire (to avoid fire damage). Do notexpose filter to direct sunlight. Clean filter more frequentlywhen air is extremely dirty.Operating the system with dirty air filters may damage theindoor unit and, in addition, can cause reduced cooling per-formance, intermittent system operation, frost build-up onthe indoor coil, and blown fuses. Inspect and clean orreplace the air filters monthly.TASK MONTHLY QUARTERLY YEARLYINDOOR UNITClean Air Filters XClean Drain Pipe XClean Condensate Drain Pan XClean Indoor Coil XClean Indoor Unit Front Panel XOUTDOOR UNITClean the Fins From Outside XOpen the Unit and Clean Fins Inside XRemove Dust From Electrical Parts XCheck Electrical Connections are Tight XClean Outdoor Fan XClean Outdoor Coil XCheck that Outdoor Fan Assembly is Tight XClean Drain Pan XFig. 22 — Inserting Water into Drain Pan
