Safety should be stressed to alloperators and potential operators of this equipment.GENERAL HAZARDSStudy these SAFETY RULES carefully before installing,operating or servicing this equipment. Become familiarwith this Owner's Manual and with the unit. The generatorcan operate safely, efficiently and reliably only if it isproperly installed, operated and maintained. Manyaccidents are caused by failing to follow simple andfundamental rules or precautions.Carrier cannot anticipate every possiblecircumstance that might involve a hazard. The warningsin this manual, and on tags and decals affixed to the unitare, therefore, not all-inclusive. If using a procedure,work method or operating technique Carrier does notspecifically recommend, ensure that it is safe for others.Also make sure the procedure, work method or operatingtechnique chosen does not render the generator unsafe._ Despite the safe design of this generator,operating this equipment imprudently, neglectingits maintenance or being careless can causepossible injury or death. Permit only responsibleand capable persons to operate or maintain thisequipment._ Potentially lethal voltages are generated bythese machines. Ensure all steps are taken torender the machine safe before attempting towork on the generator._ Parts of the generator are rotating and/or hotduring operation. Exercise care near runninggenerators.• For safety reasons, Carrier recommends that theinstallation, initial start-up and maintenance of thisequipment is carried out by a Carrier Dealer.• The engine exhaust fumes contain carbon monoxide,which can be DEADLY. This dangerous gas, ifbreathed in sufficient concentrations, can causeunconsciousness or even death. This exhaust systemmust be installed properly, in strict compliance withapplicable codes and standards. Followinginstallation, do nothing that might render the systemunsafe or in noncompliance with such codes andstandards.• Keep hands, feet, clothing, etc., away from drive belts,fans, and other moving or hot parts. Never remove anydrive belt or fan guard while the unit is operating.• Adequate, unobstructed flow of cooling and ventilatingair is critical to correct generator operation. Do notalter the installation or permit even partial blockage ofventilation provisions, as this can seriously affect safeoperation of the generator. The generator MUST beinstalled outdoors.• When working on this equipment, remain alert at alltimes. Never work on the equipment when physicallyor mentally fatigued.• Inspect the generator regularly, and contact thenearest Carrier Dealer for parts needing repair orreplacement.• Before performing any maintenance on the generator,disconnect its battery cables to prevent accidentalstart up. Disconnect the cable from the battery postindicated by a NEGATIVE, NEG or (-) first. Reconnectthat cable last.• Never use the generator or any of its parts as a step.Stepping on the unit can stress and break parts, andmay result in dangerous operating conditions fromleaking exhaust gases, fuel leakage, oil leakage, etc.2 Carrier
